Workshop 1: Old Photo Hunting in Kyoto

This workshop is a unique opportunity to walk in the town of Kyoto and discover historical landscape using our mobile app “MemoryHunt.” The workshop starts in the room with a short introduction of the app. Participants then move outside to walk around the town to compare the current landscape with the historical landscape in old photographs. Taking photographs with the app is not just sightseeing but contribution to the cultural archive with spatial and visual annotation. The workshop ends in the room with discussion on results of the activity and future of the project.

Note :

The mobile app is only available for Android. The organizer will prepare one or two Android smart phones, but those without Android devices may have a limited experience on the app.

The workshop program is subject to change due to weather conditions. Severe weather may lead to an indoor-only program.

Please be well prepared for walking outside in various weather conditions. The average of the highest temperature at Kyoto is 31.6 degree Celsius (88.9 degree Fahrenheit) on September 1.

Text Encoding Initiative P5 Guidelines (TEI) の基礎を学ぶワークショッ プです。詳細は以下の通りです。

【講義：TEIの概要・基本的な考え方】 10:00-13:00（途中休憩あり）

TEIは、人文学資料を人文学者にとって有益な仕方でデジタル化するために 1987年に欧米で策定が始まった、デジタルテクスト記述のためのガイドライン です。これは、TEIコンソーシアムによって管理されており、世界中の資料を 様々な方法論に基づいてデジタル化を行なうべく、現在でも議論と拡張が続け られています。言語コーパスや文献学、辞書、あるいは、韻文詩や脚本、演説 など、その対象はより広く、より深くなってきています。さらに、人文学資料 らしさを象徴するものとしては、各要素をレーティングするためのルールも提 供されています。そして、現在はXMLのサブセットとして利用することが一般 的であることから、XML技術に基づく様々なツールが開発され普及しています。 ここでは、このTEIの背景や歴史、現在の概況などについて講義を行ないます。

【実習：実際にTEIで何かを記述してみる】 14:00-17:00（途中休憩あり）

　TEIは、実のところXMLであり、一見すると記述がとても大変であるようにみ えます。しかし、それを簡便にするためのルールも様々に提供されるようになっ てきています。ここでは、商用ですが、oXygen XML Editorという汎用XMLエディ タを使って、記述の仕方の基本と、簡単な活用例等について、実際に手を動か しながら学習していただきます。
